Ahead Of The Market: How Alexandre de Paris Blazes The Trail For The Hair Accessories Market.

What is the next fashion arena? Where is the next fashion frontier? How would you know if it’s the next big thing? Before this article, I did not consider hair accessories an integral part of the fashion environment. Yet, after learning about Alexandre de Paris, I learned how, for over fifty years, the Maison cultivates high-quality products and redefines how customers see hair accessories. I spoke with Emily Weston, Global Head of Communications & Image, to learn how Alexandre de Paris is pioneering hair accessories.

1. What makes Alexandre de Paris different from other brands?

Alexandre de Paris has operated in a niche industry for over fifty years. We began when our founder, Louis Alexandre Raimon, worked as a haute coiffure to cultural icons like First Lady Jacqueline Onassis, Princess Grace Kelly, and Audrey Hepburn. He wanted to create high-quality products to complement his clientele. Since 1971, we have continued to adhere to this legacy by using French artisanship to make our products.

In terms of the products, we use acetate, the same material glasses are made from, to create our clips. Acetate is formed from cotton fiber and wood pulp to develop a highly durable material.

2. Where does the Alexandre de Paris design team find inspiration?

Each product possesses a je ne sais quoi appreciation of the French lifestyle. We want our products to fit into a person's everyday life. When crafting our products, the team draws inspiration from contemporary design, French archival fashion, etc.

3. How does Alexandre de Paris incorporate its mission and vision into its products?

The majority of our staff, creative, craftspeople, marketing – we’re mostly women, so there is a feminine intuition throughout the entire process.

4. What is the future of the company?

I really think that hair accessories in the West are in a similar place as watches were 30 years ago. They weren’t considered a piece of jewelry, and look at the watch industry now. I want to take us there – to have our hair accessories considered and appreciated as fine jewelry for your hair. Hair accessories are the next big frontier to cross in terms of accessories.
