In Graduate School, professors loved to discuss "Design Thinking." Design Thinking is an iterative process in which we seek to understand the user, challenge assumptions, and redefine problems to identify alternative strategies and solutions that might not be instantly apparent with our initial level of understanding (Dam and Siang). Design Thinking enables companies to understand consumer needs.

In this article series, I contacted different companies to learn how organizations apply Design Thinking. I spoke with FALKE International PR Director Kristina Falke to learn more about the company.

  1. What makes FALKE different from other brands?

FALKE sets itself apart from other brands through its blend of tradition and modernity. With over 130 years as a family-owned business, the company combines expertise and innovative approaches to create products that support people in their daily lives and offer solutions. Our Travel and Comfort line, for example, incorporates compression technology that ensures your legs feel pleasantly light even after a long day or while traveling. Athletes with Achilles tendon issues can also find a solution at FALKE. The FALKE Achilles socks help alleviate discomfort and can relieve pain. A great summer hack is the FALKE Shelina pantyhose in a sheer 12 denier, which acts like makeup for the skin and perfects the legs. A toeless version, for example, can be worn with sandals.

  2. How has FALKE evolved since its founding?

The origins of FALKE lie in a small knitting factory. Socks were a necessary everyday item at that time. Today, FALKE is a global company that sells products in over 60 countries worldwide. Socks are more than just an everyday item. Over the years, they have become fashion accessories that significantly influence one’s style. In addition to socks, the company offers a wide selection of underwear and outerwear, as well as a comprehensive sports collection.

  3. How does FALKE incorporate its mission and vision into its products?

Our mission and vision are reflected in products that combine the highest quality, timeless design, and innovative functionality. By taking great care in the selection of materials, development, and production, we create durable products that offer the highest level of comfort and aesthetics. This allows FALKE’s values to be experienced in every detail.

  4. What advice would you give to students and young professionals who aspire to start their own fashion company?

Be open-minded, courageous, and take every opportunity to learn something!

  5. What does the future hold for FALKE?

We will continue to stay true to our core values, but we won’t rest on our achievements. Starting in September, for example, our customers can look forward to a beautiful new bodywear collection featuring a variety of materials and styles. We will continue to bring new, innovative products to market in the future as well. Stay tuned!
