I Owe My Career To Kris Jenner

Kris Jenner, the odds of you seeing this article are slim to none. But, I could not continue to write this blog without thanking you. You are the person that unintentionally opened doors for me. Although I have never met you, I want to tell you how you did it.

In the first semester of graduate school, my professor and eventual thesis chair assigned students to follow a communication professional for the semester. Once a month, the class would update each other about the happenings of that person. My classmates picked environmental activist Greta Thunberg or Bindi Irwin. I picked you. I think it took the class by surprise that I would choose you. They wondered how Kris Jenner is making waves in Strategic Communications. They had failed to realize that you applied Influencer Marketing and Diffusion of Innovation Theory to your public relations efforts for years. You paved the way for influencers to be seen as a legitimate source of information in the digital sphere. When your family announced the end of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, I had to report to my class how your work has transcended television as your family could update your fans on numerous social media accounts. In graduate school, the classes are graded as pass or fail, and due to my research on you, I got a Pass.

During my second semester of grad school, two classes assigned blog assignments. I spoke with each teacher, and I said that instead of creating two different blogs, I would post three times a week without double-dipping articles. I quickly realized that it is tough to develop content. Furthermore, I realized how my blog could fill in a gap in the marketplace. Inspired by the previous semester's work, I direct messaged any company and entities that appealed to me as a consumer. Eventually, the blog has transformed my life as I met great friends, industry contacts, and career opportunities.

In the summer going into my second year of grad school, an influencer posted a KKW- Jeff Latham Perfume Line I PR box with Bevin's contact information. Bevin is the SVP of the Beauty and Wellness Department at KKW PR agency.. I could not believe my luck that this influencer would post this email. I called my friend, Jannina, and told her this person's folly with be my jolly. So, I emailed Bevin. I asked if I could talk to the brand representative for KKW Fragrance. Bevin replied that Kim Kardashian West would be unavailable to meet with me. I said I completely understood, but I would love to have a networking call to learn more about your career journey. After several follow-up emails and a power outage, I had my video call with Bevin. That day, I took my dog to the groomers to ensure he wouldn't bark. I had my call with Bevin and asked at the end if I could intern for her during the Fall Semester.

So, the Fall semester rolls around. I had an interview with the head of HR for an internship. Two weeks later, I started my first day. To say I was nervous would be an understatement. I somehow finessed an internship with the Harvard Law of PR agency. During the semester, I had the chance to work with your family's brands such as KKW Fragrance, Kylie Cosmetic, Kylie Baby, Kylie Skin, Kylie Swim, and Dose &Co. I learned how to use quantitative methods to find how brands calculate an ROI (return on investment). I worked with a fantastic team who taught me how to be the best advocate for our clients and companies. But most of all, my internship made me feel empowered to make it in this industry.

I am in my last semester of graduate school. I am working on my thesis project and posting articles a minimum of three times a week. Although I haven't met you yet, I want to thank you for giving me a springboard for opportunities. As the adage goes, the devil works hard, but Kris Jenner works harder.
