Québec City is built on magic. Its stones transport people into a uniquely North American and European-inspired place. But what permeates the stones? Why do visitors flock from around the world to walk through its cobblestone center? Why does this place exemplify the best of a province? I spoke with Pascale Boivin, account executive, Media Relations and Business Development – USA at Destination Québec cité, to learn more about this destination.

1. What makes Québec City a destination that travelers should experience, particularly those visiting for the first time?

Québec City offers an experience unlike any other destination in North America. Visitors are immediately struck by its European charm, rich history, and walkable historic core, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. At the same time, the city is vibrant and contemporary, with a renowned culinary scene, dynamic cultural offerings, and easy access to nature. Whether visitors are interested in history, food, outdoor activities, arts and culture, or simply authentic local experiences, Québec City provides an exceptional blend of old-world character and modern energy.

2. How does Québec City honor its history while continuing to evolve as a modern destination?

The preservation of our heritage is at the heart of Québec City's identity, but the city is far from being a museum. Historic buildings, public spaces, and cultural landmarks are carefully maintained while being integrated into modern life. Innovative restaurants, boutique hotels, contemporary art spaces, and new attractions continue to emerge throughout the destination. This balance allows visitors to experience centuries of history alongside a thriving and creative modern community.

3. What are some of Québec City’s lesser-known attractions, neighborhoods, or experiences that you believe more visitors should discover?

Outdoor enthusiasts can also discover Jacques-Cartier National Park, just a short drive from downtown, while culture lovers may enjoy exploring artisan workshops, public markets, and year-round festivals that showcase the creativity of our region.

4. How does Destination Québec cité promote and support local artisans, independent businesses, and cultural organizations?

Supporting local businesses and cultural organizations is an essential part of our destination development strategy. Through our marketing initiatives, media relations efforts, visitor communications, and partnerships, we actively showcase the people and businesses that contribute to Québec City's unique identity. We work closely with local entrepreneurs, artists, chefs, cultural institutions, and tourism operators to ensure their stories and experiences are highlighted both domestically and internationally. Their success helps strengthen the authenticity that visitors value when choosing Québec City.

5. Is there a particular season, upcoming event, or recent development that makes this an especially exciting time to visit Québec City?

There are several exciting developments that make this a particularly vibrant time to visit Québec City. One of the most anticipated cultural openings is the new pavilion dedicated to Jean Paul Riopelle at the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec. This major addition will offer visitors a unique opportunity to experience the work and legacy of one of Canada's most celebrated artists while further strengthening Québec City's position as a leading cultural destination.

On the wellness front, visitors can now discover Solstice Sauna Québec, a new Scandinavian-inspired thermal experience that combines nature, relaxation, and contemporary design. It reflects the growing demand for wellness travel and complements the region's outdoor and lifestyle offerings.

Combined with an ever-evolving restaurant scene, major exhibitions, and a full calendar of festivals and events, these additions continue to reinforce Québec City's reputation as a destination that seamlessly blends culture, creativity, wellness, and authenticity in every season.

I would also be pleased to provide a selection of approved destination images and photo credits for your article. In particular, I can share visuals highlighting the upcoming Riopelle pavilion at the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec as well as Québec City's newest wellness experiences, including Solstice Sauna.

Perhaps Québec City’s magic lies in the life unfolding around its stones: the artisans preserving traditions, the chefs creating new flavors, and the neighborhoods inviting visitors to linger. Its history draws people in; what they discover along the way gives them a reason to return.
