When I was in 10th grade, I realized that baking is chemistry in action. To make the perfect sweet, every step matters. Follow the recipe precisely, or risk a less than delicious result. Since then, I have had immense admiration for bakers. Getting something just right is harder than it looks.
When I first tried Batter and Dough Microbakery, I was cautiously optimistic. The cookies looked incredible, but looks alone are not everything. One bite of their holiday sprinkle cookie changed everything. The colorful sprinkles melted into a rich, buttery center, and I was completely speechless.
After finishing the cookie, I knew I had to write about them. I reached out to founder Amanda Torres to learn more about how this bakery and its unforgettable cookies came to be.

Batter & Dough Microbakery Interview Founder Amanda Torres

1. What makes Batter and Dough different from other bakeries?
Batter & Dough is a home-based microbakery rooted in small-batch baking and community connection. While many bakeries focus on volume, we focus on intention. Every order is prepared with a heartfelt commitment to creating something meaningful and bringing joy to those enjoying it.
What truly sets us apart is our dedication to connection. We find purpose in getting to know our customers, giving back through thoughtful donations, sharing samples, and using our skills to serve and support our community.

2. How has Batter and Dough evolved since its founding?
When Batter & Dough first began, the focus was simply on creating and selling baked goods I loved making. As the bakery has grown, so has its purpose. What started as a passion for baking quickly evolved into a deeper mission centered on joy, connection, and giving back. Every order became more than just a dessert, it became an opportunity to make someone smile. That shift inspired Batter with a Purpose, an initiative created to donate cakes and cupcakes to children in need.
As we’ve continued to grow, we’ve shown up in local markets, stayed rooted in our community, and made a conscious effort to keep our pricing accessible. Batter & Dough has become a reflection of the belief that delicious, feel-good treats should be for everyone and that baking can be a powerful way to serve and support others.

3. How does Batter and Dough incorporate its mission and vision into its products?
At Batter & Dough, we bake with intention and care. Each product is thoughtfully prepared with attention to detail, quality, and consistency. Ingredients and allergens are clearly listed, packaging is properly labeled, and our kitchen is maintained to the highest standards. We give customers the freedom to personalize their orders in ways that feel meaningful. Whether it’s a favorite flavor, a thoughtful detail, or a special request, we believe that personal touches turn desserts into memorable experiences. Beyond the baking itself, we focus on building relationships with our customers and understanding their needs.

4. What advice would you give students and young professionals who want to start their own business?
My biggest advice is to prioritize what brings you joy. Build something that sparks excitement for you and allows you to create that same feeling for others. There will never be a “perfect” time to start, so don’t wait for it. Don’t get too caught up in the numbers (followers, likes, orders, or money), especially at the beginning. Let go of perfection and focus on progress — that’s where real growth happens. At the same time, have a plan and stay organized so your passion has direction. This mindset is exactly how Batter & Dough began, and it continues to guide how I show up and grow the business today — with intention, fulfillment, and just the right amount of stress.

5. What’s the next chapter?
The next chapter for Batter & Dough is all about growth, connection, and spreading happiness. I plan to continue building meaningful relationships and engaging in community outreach, especially through our Batter with a Purpose program, so we can reach children in need of celebration and share the joy of homemade treats. We also plan to participate in more local events, such as markets and volunteer opportunities, to continue strengthening our connection with the community. At the same time, I want to keep delighting customers with tailored, delicious goodies while continuing to grow my skills and evolve as a person. For me, the journey is what makes it all meaningful, one treat and one connection at a time!
