You Want To Be In A Pickle: A Conversation With The Pickle Guys

My little sister, Jackie, loves pickles. Growing up, she would be the pickle sommelier as she went through the supermarket's aisles. She could discern between a half-sour and sour pickle at a young age. In 2019, my sister, mother, brother, and I were in New York City. We ate at Russ and Daughters for breakfast; we walked to The Pickle Guys. The Pickle Guys is a sacred site for pickle lovers. The store specializes in barrel-cured pickles. According to The Pickle Guys, this process makes their pickles taste distinctive. I had the chance to speak with Mike to learn more about the company.

1. What makes your products different from other products on the market?

There are many ways to pickle, we do it the old fashion way, barrel cured, cold pack, takes a longer time but keeps the quality. We do not add any chemicals or preservatives. We do not cook or heat the brine to speed up the process. We also hand pick the pickles before packing them and selling them to customers for quality control.

2. How do you incorporate your mission and vision into your product offerings?

Let's say the reason we decided to open the business was to keep the tradition alive. Started off as more of a jewish culture in the community but then over time we realized that pickling itself has been around forever and has been in every culture. So going forward, not only will we preserve the pickling culture of the jewish community, we will add additional cultural pickled products and create new innovations.

3. What is the future of the company?

I guess hopefully we can expand, being able to be at locations all over the country and maybe even worldwide.
