Food for Thought: Inside Service and Soul Women Leading with Purpose

South Florida is in the middle of a hospitality renaissance, shaped by a new generation of founders who understand that experience is everything.

On April 26, Alma Matcha co-founders Taymir Terrell and Jessica Binder joined forces with Gioia Hospitality co-founder Kassidy Angelo to spotlight the women driving that momentum. Service and Soul Women Leading with Purpose was not just an event. It was a reflection of where the industry is headed.
There is always uncertainty when walking into a room. What will it feel like? Who will be there? That disappeared almost instantly. Before I even stepped inside, I found an unexpected point of connection. Another attendee and I arrived in nearly identical brown suits, mine from Mango, hers from Princess Polly. It was an effortless icebreaker and a reminder that the best events create connection before the programming even begins.

Inside the Thrive Arts District space, the art of hospitality was on full display. Alma Matcha partnered with Daniel’s Steakhouse on a custom menu as guests moved seamlessly between conversation and connection. With Porfa Coffees and Alma matchas in hand, the room reflected the full spectrum of the industry, from emerging talent to established leaders, all shaping what comes next.
A Note to Self wall invited reflection. I wrote a phrase that has grounded me through uncertainty. Everything will happen at the right time. Around me, others did the same, turning a simple installation into something collective.

The fireside style panel brought together six entrepreneurs who spoke candidly about the reality behind the highlight reel. They shared the sacrifice, discipline, and long game required to build something meaningful. The evening closed with matcha ice cream and headshots, blending community with career in a way that felt intentional rather than transactional.
One insight stayed with me. Jessica Binder emphasized that you do not have to say immediately yes to everything. Taking the time to evaluate opportunities is not hesitation. It is strategy.

I left thinking about what it means to build with intention and who gets to shape what comes next. If this event is any indication, South Florida’s hospitality renaissance is not just happening. It is being defined by the people willing to build it.
