There is no recipe for building a successful business. Entrepreneurs need the right mix of creativity, strategy, and something that sets them apart from the competition. In South Florida’s ultra-competitive baking scene, Layers by Lo has mastered that formula. I spoke with founder Logan to learn more about the company's story.

  1. What makes Layers By Lo different from other bakeries?

Layers By Lo is rooted in intentionality, quality, and artistry. Everything is made completely from scratch using high-quality organic ingredients, without artificial dyes or shortcuts. Beyond the ingredients, I focus heavily on creating desserts that feel personal and memorable, whether that’s through flavor combinations, visual storytelling, or the overall experience people have when they receive a cake or pastry. I also think my background in branding and creative direction influences the business in a unique way. Layers By Lo isn’t just about desserts. It’s about creating something beautiful, comforting, and thoughtfully crafted.

  1. How has Layers By Lo evolved since its founding?

Layers By Lo started as a creative outlet and passion project, originally specializing in vegan desserts only but it has evolved into a growing brand with a strong art and community presence. In the beginning, I focused mostly on small orders. Over time, the business expanded into markets, weddings, collections, full dessert tables, event catering, and collaborations with local businesses. I’ve also become much more intentional about branding, customer experience, and long-term sustainability. The growth has taught me how to balance creativity with entrepreneurship while staying authentic to the heart of the brand!

  1. How does Layers By Lo incorporate its mission and vision into its products and services?

At its core, Layers By Lo is about creating moments of connection, comfort, and celebration over art that you can eat. That mission shows up in every detail, from using from-scratch recipes and organic ingredients to designing desserts that feel artistic and elevated while still approachable. I recipe-develop and test all of my recipes and keep them written to pass down to my family in the future. I want people to feel something when they experience my work. Whether it’s a wedding cake, a cinnamon roll at a market, or a dessert table for a celebration, the goal is always to create something meaningful, intentional, and made with patience.

  1. What advice would you give to students and young professionals who want to start their own business?

Start before you feel fully ready. A lot of people wait until everything feels perfect, but growth happens through experience. Be willing to learn as you go, stay consistent even when things are slow, and don’t underestimate the importance of building relationships and community. I also think it’s important to create something that genuinely reflects you instead of chasing trends. Authenticity is what helps people connect to a brand long-term.

  1. What is the future of the company?

The future of Layers By Lo is focused on expansion while maintaining the quality and artistry that built the brand. I would love to continue growing through collaborations, large-scale events, and eventually a dedicated brick and mortar that combines bakery production with an intentional customer experience. I also hope to continue building the brand into something people recognize not just for desserts, but for artful creativity, storytelling, and community connection.
